How safe is ballooning
Customer safety is our priority and we only fly in perfect weather conditions. Our pilots are all highly qualified and holders of commercial pilot licenses.
When is the balloon ride done
The ride is normally done early in the mornings at approximately 06:30 (0630 am) in time to enjoy the sunrise glow on the distant horizon
Is there a minimum age or general restrictions to flying
Generally, we don’t fly children under the height of the basket (140 centimetres) or under the age of 5 years. There is no upper age limit, provided passengers are reasonably fit and ready to enjoy the adventurous soaring across the majestic plains. For the client’s own safety, ballooning is not suitable for pregnant ladies, or persons with health conditions; heart matters, brittle bones, neck, or back conditions.
Any balloon flight requires a certain amount of physical strength to climb in/out of the basket, in case the basket is standing upright OR lying on its side. People with impaired mobility may be accommodated with prior notice to help us plan for them.
What is the duration of the flight
The average flight duration is 1 hour travelling approximately 15 to 25 km depending on wind conditions.
How do we get to the launch site and back to the hotel
We provide transport to and from your hotel/lodge/camp. Upon your request, we may take
you on a game drive after the Champagne Breakfast. See the list of camps we collect from.
I am afraid of heights
Even if you have a fear of heights, you won’t have a fear of ballooning…there is no sensation of height in a hot air balloon! When you stand on the edge of a tall building and look over the side, you get that fearful feeling because of perspective. You can see the building all the way to the ground, giving yourself something to judge the height against. When you are flying in an airliner at 35,000 feet and look out the window, it’s just scenery passing by..this is the same feeling you will get in a hot air balloon.
Will i get motion sickness
No, there is nothing that makes the basket away in flight. It hangs motionless in the air mass that surrounds it. There is no “elevator” feeling. It is amazingly smooth.
How fast do balloons fly
The speed of the balloon is the speed of the wind wafting it along. No flights will be launched if it appears that we will exceed 10 mph on landing.
Can i take a camera
Yes, we encourage you to take a still or video camera with you during the flight. Although digital pictures will be taken of your flight from the ground, you will have wonderful photo opportunities from the basket, as well. We do recommend, however, that you have a suitable soft case with you in which to stow the camera during the landing.
How do hot air balloons fly
Hot Air Balloons operate using the basic principles of gravity and heat transfer. When the air inside the balloon is heated past the outside (ambient) temperature, it gains altitude. As the air inside the envelope is vented or cools, the balloon descends. Pilots use wind layers at different altitudes in order to steer the balloon in different directions.
