KILIMANJARO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) is an international airport located in Hai DistrictKilimanjaro Region, Tanzania. The airport serves the cities of Arusha and Moshi and mainly serves regional flights as well as a few long-haul services due to its importance as a leisure destination. It is the largest airport in northern Tanzania, by size and passenger volume.

Kilimanjaro Airport opened on 2 December 1971.
In 1998, it became the first international airport in Africa to be privatised and is operated by Kilimanjaro Airports Development Company (KADCO), a fully-government-owned company that manages and develops KIA to reflect the beauty and jaw-dropping attractions that exist in the northern Tanzania tourism circuit. The airport facilitates the tourism industry for visitors travelling to three Regions: Arusha Region, Kilimanjaro Region, Mara Region and Manyara Region. These three regions are home to Mount Kilimanjaro National Park, Arusha National Park, Tarangire National Park, Lake Manyara National Park, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Serengeti National Park, and elsewhere.

Kilimanjaro International airport is located 35km from Moshi and 45km from Arusha. The airport gained the tag “gateway to Africa’s wildlife heritage”. The tag emerged notably and gained currency due to the exceptional role of the airport to the tourism sector for its airport operations and infrastructure management.

Kilimanjaro Intl airport is a thriving business centre, as the airport’s 110 square kilometres is a home for Logistics companies, aviation fuel, telecommunication, hotels, and more. The airport has been playing important role in providing services to airlines, passengers, aircraft, owners, and cargo services.

The airport is a hub for international, and domestic flights and a major gateway for passengers and cargo from the world to Northern Tanzania and the Northern Safari circuit. It is home to major links to Europe, the Middle East, the United States of America, the Far East, Canada and a large part of Africa.
