6 Days Marangu Route

Route Overview

Embark on an epic six-day journey along the legendary Marangu Route, Tanzania’s most popular pathway to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. Combining breathtaking natural beauty, rich cultural encounters, and comfortable accommodations, this itinerary promises an unforgettable adventure of a lifetime.

Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you'll be warmly welcomed and transferred to the charming town of Moshi, situated at the base of Mount Kilimanjaro. Take some time to settle in and prepare for your upcoming expedition.

After a hearty breakfast, you'll embark on a scenic drive to the Marangu Gate, the starting point of your climb. Complete necessary logistics and registrations, and then venture into the lush rainforest filled with an array of spectacular flora and fauna. Ascend through the misty trails to reach the Mandara Huts nestled at an elevation of 2,700 meters. Rest and rejuvenate in this tranquil setting.

Cultural Insight: Immerse yourself in the local Chagga culture, known for their traditional farming practices and unique customs, as you interact with the local communities.

Leave the rainforest behind and trek through the enchanting moorland. Admire the breathtaking views of open vistas and unique plant species as you make your way to Horombo Huts, situated at an elevation of 3,720 meters. Marvel at the majestic peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo and indulge in a cozy overnight stay.

To ensure a successful summit attempt, it is crucial to allow your body time to acclimatize to the altitude. Use this day to rest, relax, and explore the surroundings. You may opt for a short hike to Zebra Rock or explore the alpine desert landscapes nearby. Return to Horombo Huts for another peaceful night.

Continue your ascent, traversing the stark landscapes of the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. Reach the Kibo Huts, positioned at an elevation of 4,703 meters, which will serve as your base for the final summit push. Take in the awe-inspiring surroundings and prepare for a thrilling adventure ahead.

Accommodation: Kibo Huts

Start your summit attempt during the night, under the guidance of experienced mountaineers. Trek through the challenging scree slopes to reach Gilman's Point, where the first rays of sunlight will greet you with a magnificent sunrise. Push onward to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at 5,895 meters. Capture this triumphant moment before descending to Horombo Huts for a well-deserved rest. From there, continue downhill to Marangu Gate, where you'll be transferred back to Moshi. Reflect on your incredible achievement and celebrate your accomplishment!
